URBANA

WOOD PROJECT

Sustainable woodworking in the neighborhood

“The treasure of an urban forest doesn’t end when a tree dies”

Our Story

Fascinated by the different species of trees in the neighborhood, Christopher started saving wood from tree trimmings, and trees that had to be taken down due disease or had come down during a storm.

From our urban forest, we now have a collection of oak, pin oak, red oak, walnut, silver maple, sugar maple, red maple, dogwood, sycamore, black locust, honey locust, cherry, hackberry, Siberian elm, apricot, osage orange, lindenwood, ash, and tulip poplar. We are also thankful to residents in the neighborhood who have alerted us when there is wood to salvage.

We process the wood into slabs and allow them to dry naturally. The drying process can take years depending on the thickness of the slab so we are just beginning (and excited!) to use the very first woods collected years ago.

These precious pieces of Urbana’s history are given a second life in our small workshop.

Neighborhood Wood Collection!

We welcome wood donations! We also appreciate “wood alerts” to fallen branches and trees.

We would love to work with you to create a meaningful keepsake from local wood (or wood from your backyard!)
